AG in Austria

What is the difference between an AG and a GmbH?

An AG (Aktiengesellschaft) is Austria's equivalent of a corporation (comparable to a US C-Corp). It issues shares (Aktien), requires a minimum capital of €70,000, and is governed by a two-tier board structure: a Vorstand (management board) and an Aufsichtsrat (supervisory board). A GmbH is simpler, privately held, and does not issue tradeable shares. Publicly listed Austrian companies are always AGs.
