For the most common Austrian company type — the GmbH (Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung), which is broadly comparable to a US LLC or closely held corporation — the Gesellschaftsvertrag must be notarized and filed with the Austrian Commercial Register (Firmenbuch).
